² I cannot follow Konow’s ingenious but purely philological theory, of which he himself points out one difficulty, that in Junnar 5 and 8 the Yavanas Irila and Çita ‘of the Gatas’ were Goths from the Vistula; and see O. Stein’s criticism, *op. cit.* pp. 349-50. I have failed also to find why Konow calls the Junnar inscriptions second century A.D.; all these Yavanas should be about the same period, and Nasik 19 is earlier (next note). But I am not using Junnar as evidence for anything.
