² The wall-paintings of Bāgh in the Gwalior State and of Sittannavāsal in the Pudukottai State show the influence of the art of Ajanta in Malwa and Southern India. The paintings of Bāgh, being earlier (fifth or sixth century A.D.), exhibit the art in a more vigorous form than do the murals of Sittannavāsal, which have been assigned by experts to the seventh century A.D.
