Note: The names of the rivers and their order of enumeration vary slightly in different Purāṇas. The RV list of the Himalayan rivers runs as follows: Gaṅgā, Yamunā, Saraswatī, Śutudrī, Vipāś, Paruṣṇī, Asiknī, Marudvṛdhā, Vitastā, Arjīkiyā, Suṣomā, Trisāmā, Susartu, Svetī, Sindhu, Kubhā, Gomatī, Krumu, Mehatnu (RV, X, 75, 5, 6). Here the order is from Gaṅgā towards the west and all the rivers of the north-west and their major tributaries occur in the same order.
