(v) The Vamana and Garuda Puranas substitute Kataha and Simhala for Saumya and Gandharva. This most probably implies that in a later period of Indian history, the Trans-Indus regions were lost to India, were consequently considered extra-Indian and dropped from the list. Their place was taken by regions added by territorial acquisitions in the south and west. Kathiawar (Kataha) and Ceylon (Simhala), it appears, were added to the traditional list as the two new khandas or regions of India.
