Vidiśā obviously corresponded to the basin of the upper Betwa (or Vetravati). Daśārṇa extended over the adjacent Sagar plateau dissected by the deeply entrenched valleys of the river Dhasan and its headwaters. In fact, there is no distinct, natural barrier between these two regions, and the two janapadas often merged into each other.
