Agastya Ṛṣi is still said to reside at the Agastya-Kūṭa mountain in Tirunelveli (South India) where the river Tāmraparṇī takes its rise. It is the southernmost peak of the Anamalai mountain. The hermitage of Agastya supposed to be situated at Kara in the Southern Ocean may be identified with Kolai on the mouth of the Tāmraparṇī (N. D. Dey, Dict.).
