(1) Mount Krauñca from which the dwīpa derives its name, appears for the first time in Taittiriya Āraṇyaka (1, 31, 2). This means that it has had associations with Jambū Dwīpa (and incidentally with India) since remote antiquity. In all probability, therefore, this region was situated in the immediate vicinity of Jambū Dwīpa.
