(2) The Mahābhārata (12, 14, 21-5) locates Krauñcadwīpa in the west (of Meru) while the same epic (6, 12) places it in the north. The inevitable conclusion is that the dwīpa touched the Jambū Dwīpa in the north-west. The Bṛhat Saṃhitā (14, 24) and the Rāmāyaṇa (4, 43, 25) locate it in the north.48
