The accompanying map of the Himālayan and Trans-Himālayan peaks* (Fig. 5) depicts in a simplified form and in a generalised manner the mountain systems of Asia. The peaks of the mountains are classified according to their magnitude and some idea of the relative heights of the different ranges can be visualised at a glance from the map. Besides, a north-south cross-section has also been added to bring out the sequence of ranges and intervening valleys.
