Between these ranges and the Northern Ocean (the Arctic) lie the following regions: Ramyaka or Ramanaka⁶ Varṣa (between the Nīla and the Śveta); Hiraṇmaya or Hiraṇyaka Varṣa⁷ (between the Śveta and the Śṛṅgavān) and Uttara Kuru or Śṛṅgāsaka⁸ (between the Śṛṅgavān and the Northern Ocean—the Arctic) (see Fig. 8).
