It will be seen from the topographical map that Saṅkhakūṭa is that range which lies south of Lake Son and runs parallel to the right bank of the Naryn river. As the river flows in the shadow of this range it receives tributaries from the northern slopes of the Tien-Shan (Nila of the Purāṇas). These are the headwaters of the River Naryn which are clearly shown on the map.
