Naṅgā Parbāt's summit is 26620 feet, a.s.l. and its base stands on the left side of the Indus valley, which at that point is but 3500 feet; it therefore exposes 23120 feet of its side to an observer, who standing as near as he may dare to the edge of perhaps the most lofty cliff of the world with the Indus valley 12000 feet below him, may regard at the distance of less than 40 miles, the unparalleled view presented by the vast snow fields, glaciers and crags of this King of Mountains.⁷
