After the time of Mahmûd, Somnâth would appear to have been abandoned by its rulers in favour of Analwâra, which is mentioned as the capital of Gujarât in the time of Muhammad Ghori and his successor Aibeg.† It was still the capital of the kingdom in A.H. 697, or A.D. 1297, when the country was invaded by the army of Ala-ud-din Muhammad Khilji, which occupied Nahrwâla, or Analwâra, and annexed the province to the empire of Delhi.
