Note also that the Purânas mention, in their (iv) Bhuvana-kosha section, the countries and nations of India under the following heads:—(1) Madhyadesa (Central), (2) Udîchya (N.), (3) Prâchya (E.), (4) Dakshinâ-patha (S.), (5) Aparânta (W.). Thus the Puranic system is also the same as (ii) and (iii). But the Purânas add (6) the *Vindhyavâsinah* (those who dwell on the Vindhyas), (7) the *Parvatâsrayinah* (nations dwelling on the Himalayas) and (8) the North-Westerners (mentioned in the *Mârkaṇḍeya*).
