Karavandapuram—This is the same as the village now known as Ukkirankoṭṭai in Kaḷakkuḍi-nāḍu in the Tinnevelly taluk. It was of great strategic importance in the time of the early Pāṇḍyas. Vestiges of a fort and a moat are even now visible, which give evidence to its former greatness. There are two Śiva temples called Arikeśarīśvaram and Rājasiṅgīśvaram, in the vicinity of the village named after the Pāṇḍya kings, Arikeśari and Rājasiṅha (E.I., XXIII, Pt. VII, p. 284).
