Mainākaparvata.—The Rāmāyaṇa locates it in South India. According to Aśvaghoṣa it entered the river to check the course of the ocean (Saundaranandākāvya, Ch. VII, verse 40). This legendary account is also found in the Rāmāyaṇa, which locates the Mainākaparvata in the Dakṣiṇāpatha. This mountain also known as the Malayagiri had three cavities crowded with serpents (Daśakumāracarita, p. 36).
