Simhapura.—The identification of Simhapura is not certain. Some identify this place with Sihapura which is mentioned in the *Mahāvaṃsa* (VI, 35ff.) as situated in the Lāḷa country, i.e. Rāḍha. It was probably a part of Kaliṅga which might have included a portion of Rāḍha. According to others, it may be the same as the modern Singupuram between Chicacole and Narasannapeta (*E.I.*, IV, p. 143). The Belāva copperplate of Bhojavarman proves that the Varmans ruled over Simhapura (N. G. Majumdar, *Inscriptions of Bengal*, Vol. III, p. 16).
