v1.c4.s2.126

The earliest recorded instances of cooperation between Indians and Chinese against foreign imperialism involved soldiers from the British Indian forces sent to help suppress the Taiping Rebellion in the middle of the 19ᵗʰ century CE. Several Indian soldiers are known to have crossed over to the side of the rebels and fought alongside them. Similarly, a member of the Indian forces sent to put down the Boxer Rebellion in north China in 1900, Thakur Gadadhar Singh, later wrote a moving account entitled *Thirteen Months in China*, in which he gave voice to his anguish at the unjust treatment meted out to the Chinese by the so-called civilised foreign powers.
