Along with the growth of economic ties between the two countries, the number of Indians and Chinese visiting each other's countries, and also living and working there has also grown considerably. Apart from Hong Kong, there are over 20,000 Indians living in China currently and the number continues to grow. They are predominantly students (over 8,000), traders and businessmen and professionals spread across many provinces of China. Tens of thousands of Chinese have also visited India over the last decade. Many come to visit the places of Buddhist pilgrimage in India. As well, a growing number of Chinese are working as software professionals, chartered accountants and entrepreneurs in India. The development of people-to-people contacts has reached levels unprecedented in India-China relations although the number is still small given the size of China and India and their populations.
