The invention of paper-making may have had links with India. In the mid-2^nd^ century CE, paper was already in use in Khotan in the region of present-day Xinjiang. It is very close to India and so it is possible that Indians might have known paper at that time. In the 7^th^ century CE, Yi Jing went to India and found that paper was used there. Some scholars tend to think that paper making was brought into Tibet in the mid-7^th^ century CE and later from there it was introduced into India.
