451-521 CE, China received at least 42 diplomatic missions from India, including among others from Kophen, west India, Sravasti, Varanasi, Oddiyana, Ayodhya, Bolor, south India, Jalandhara, Syamaka, Gandhara, Sindhu, Mathura, Kashmir, Purusapura, Magadha and Kausala. By contrast, fewer envoys had been sent to India by northern regimes in China. According to *Wei Shu* in mid Tai Yan Era (about 437 CE) of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Dong Wan and Gao Ming were sent on a diplomatic mission to nine states in the Western Regions. In the 3^rd year of Xi Ping Era (518 CE), Song Yun (an official) and Fa Li (a monk) were sent to Western Regions to collect Buddhist sutras. They all had been to India.
