This relationship did not have a favourable turn until Dr. Bejoy Kumar Basu, President of All India Kotnis Memorial Committee and an old friend of Chinese people, visited China in April 1973 at the invitation of Marshal Ye Jianying. In the following May, the All India Kotnis Memorial Committee sent a delegation to Beijing, the first Indian delegation since 1962. Before departure, the delegation obtained the approval of the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Dr. Basu and the All India Kotnis Memorial Committee made important efforts to normalise diplomatic relations.
