¹¹² See R. C. Majumdar, Suvarṇadvīpa, Part i, pp. 54-55. The Greek geographer Ptolemy mentions Chryse Chora (Golden land) and Chryse Chersonesus (Golden Peninsula) similar to Suvarṇa-bhūmi and Suvarṇa-dvīpa of the Indian authors who, however, often used the two names indiscriminately (ibid., pp. 40ff.). It is interesting to note that Ptolemy places these territories in ‘India beyond the Ganges’. This is apparently due to the spread of Indian culture in the said regions.
