v1.c4.s2.5
The family from which Yuan-chuang sprang is said to have been descended from the semi-mythical Huang-Ti through the great Emperor Shun, and to have originally borne the territorial designation of Shun, viz. Kuei (媯). In very early times the seat of the family was in the district now bearing the name Kuei-tê (歸德)-foo in the east of Honan, and it was afterwards removed for a time to the neighbourhood of the present Ts'ao-chou in Shantung. At the time of Wu Wang, the first king of the Chow dynasty, a man known as Hu-kung-kuei-man (胡公媯滿) was regarded as the lineal representative of the Shun family.
