v2.c20.142
The name of the town here given as Loh-pan-yi (or Lo-ni)-lo (洛般尼邏) was in Julien's text Lo-yin(殷)-ni-lo and he restored this as Rohinīla. The restoration has of course been adopted by subsequent writers, but it cannot be accepted; the reading -yin- is found only in the *Iching*, A, C, and D all having Lo-pan-ni-lo. These syllables may represent an original like Lāvaṇila, but there is no hint as to the meaning of the word, and it may have been Lavaṇanīla.
