S. लाइ and लइ “for the sake of,” correspond to H. P. लिये, and are used like it, either with or without the genitive particle; but in S. the meaning is the same in both cases, while in H. it differs; thus उस लिये “for that reason,” but उस के लिये “for the sake of him.”
