v1.c31.12

3. NARAHARI, called SARASVATĪTĪRTHA. His commentary is called *Bāla-cittānurañjanī*. He also refers to two works, *Smṛti-darpaṇa* and *Tarka-ratna* (with its *Dīpikā* commentary), written by himself. Aufrecht notes that Narahari is also the author of a commentary on the *Meghadūta*, of which there is a copy in the Cambridge University Library, and Stein notes (p. 67) a *Kumārasambhava-ṭīkā* by Sarasvatītīrtha. His commentary on Mammaṭa states that he was born in *saṃvat* 1298 = 1242 A.D., in Tribhuvanagiri in the Andhra country. He traces his own genealogy to Rāmeśvara of Vatsa-gotra, and describes himself as the son of Mallinātha and Nāgamā and grandson of Narasimha, son of Rāmeśvara. He had a brother named Nārāyaṇa. When he became an ascetic, he took the name of Sarasvatītīrtha and composed his commentary at Benares¹.
