¹ Vedic forms occur in the Prâtiśâkhya-Sûtras, and are pointed out as such by the commentators. For instance, I. Prâtiśâkhya, iv. 33. ता वशंगमानि instead of तानि वशंगमानि। The Commentator says, तानिश्शब्दलोपो द्रष्टव्यः। छंदोवत्सूत्राणि भवंति। The same applies also to the Sâmayâchârika-Sûtras, for instance, those of Âpastamba, i. 53., where we read अधा-सनशायी। The Commentator explains this irregular form by अधःशब्दस्य सवर्णदीर्घश्छंदसो ऽपपाठो वा। Again, i. 93. we find अग्लास्तु explained by the Commentary as तच्चानुस्वार-पाठश्छंदसः। अपपाठो वा। Gautama-Sûtras, p. 40. l. 20. we read सकारांतपाठ आर्षः सुमेधसो दुर्मधस इत्यादिषु दर्शनात्॥
