† Vâgbhaṭa, in his larger work entitled Ashṭângasangraha, otherwise called Vṛiddha Vâgbhaṭa, enumerates the months as beginning with Mârgashîrsha. In i, 4 of the work the Uttarâyaṇa is said to commence with Mâgha, while Mârgashîrsha is mentioned first amongst the months there enumerated, much after the same way as Amara has done in i, 4, 13 and 14.
