⁶¹ Recently a new edition, likewise very meritorious, of the first two books, the *ágneyam* and the *aindram parva*, of the *árchika* (up to i. 5. 2. 3. 10), has been published by Satyavrata Sámáśramin, in the *Bibliotheca Indica* (1871–74), accompanied by the corresponding portions (*prapáṭhakas* 1–12) of the Geyagána, and the complete commentary of Sáyaṇa, and other illustrative matter.—The division of the *sámans* into *parvans* is first mentioned by Páraskara, ii. 10 (*adhyáyádín prabrúyád, ṛishimukháni bahvṛichánám, parvāṇi chhandogánám*). A Rá种种vaṇabháshya on the Sámaveda is said to be still in existence in Malabar; see Rost, *I. St.*, ix. 176.
