¹²⁹ In T. S., vii. 4. 19. 1, Káṭh. Áś., iv. 8, there are two vocatives instead of the two accusatives; besides, we have *subhage* for *subhadrám*. The vocative *kámpílavásini* is explained by Sáyaṇa, 'O thou that art veiled in a beautiful garment' (*kámpílaśabdena ślághyo vastraviśesha uchyate*; see *I. St.*, xii. 312). This explanation is hardly justifiable, and Mahídhara's reference of the word to the city of Kámpíla must be retained, at least for the wording of the text which we have in the V. S. In the Pratijñá-Pariśishṭa, Kámpílya is given as the eastern limit of Madhyadeśa; see my *Pratijñásútra*, pp. 101–105.
