This Upanishad has been interpreted by Gauḍapáda and Śaṃkara; and in addition to much that is quite modern, it presents a great deal that is ancient. It probably dates from about the fourth century A.D., as at that time the Nṛisiṅha worship flourished on the western coast of India, while otherwise we find no traces of it.¹⁸⁹
