³⁵⁴ *Sura* is a bastard formation from *asura*, resting on a misunderstanding of the word, which was wrongly analysed into *a-sura*. The mention of the term in Nir., iii. 8, is patently an interpolation, as it is quite foreign to the Vedic texts.
