The terms Kabbaṭa (Kharvaṭaka) and Doṇamuha (Droṇa-mukha) occur in the Mallijñāta, a Jain work (which is being edited by my student Dr. Roth), as the names of territorial divisions along with Kheḍa, Maḍamba, etc. Abhyayadevasūri, a 12th century commentator, explains Kabbaṭa as a *kunagaram* or a small or insignificant town and Doṇamuha as ‘*jalapatha-sthalapathayuktam*, a place which has both land and water approaches. This explanation apparently supports the *Arthaśāstra* according to which Droṇamukha was bigger than Kharvaṭaka.
