If a nobleman paid a ceremonial visit to another nobleman, he usually went on a fine charger. His host came some distance to receive him. On approaching each other, they alighted from their horses, and after removing their parasols or other distinguishing encumbrances, they advanced towards each other. The situation ended in their meeting half way in a warm and hearty embrace. Then they rode back together to the house of the host, where the guest was surrounded with every comfort and invited to partake of the choicest food.²
