The descriptions of Narmadasundarī's wanderings throw very interesting light on the life of a prostitute. It is said that her voyage included a trip to Babbara Kula. She was received well there. The goods were taken down from the ship; the servants put up a tent and made a bed for her to rest on. The story goes on to state that the chief source of income of the ruler of Babbara came from merchants who visited houses of ill-fame. These were situated on the outskirts of the port town (*poyatthana puranam anto*).
