Salavati (*M.V.* VIII, 1, 3-4), a beautiful girl of Rajagriha was also installed as a courtesan. She received training in dancing, singing and lute-playing and her fees were fixed at a hundred *karshapanas* a night. Once when Salavati was with a child, to safeguard her position she gave out that she was ill. Nobody was allowed to see her. She gave birth to a boy and she asked her maid to abandon him on a dust heap. He was found and reared by Abhaya and later grew up to be the famous physician Jivaka Kumarabhritya.
