To ensure the safety of the person of a ganika, the penalty ranged between 1,000 to 48,000 *panas* depending on the nature and condition of the crimes and the status of the ganika who had been injured. The penalty was fixed in a sliding scale, i.e. it was higher or lower depending on whether the ganika belonged to the first, second or the highest rank. In case of an offence committed by a ganika against another member of her profession, the amount of the penalty was twice, thrice, four or more times of the basic penalty if the offence was committed more than once.
