*Daṇḍa nīti*, then, is the art and science of government. It came to be known later on by other terms such as the *Arthaśāstra*, *Rāja Dharma*, *Rāja Nīti* and *Nīti-śāstra*. In the शब्दादिवर्ग of *Amara Kośa* it is said that *ānvīkṣikī* and *daṇḍa nīti* are respectively *Tarkavidyā* and *Arthaśāstra*.
