In this connexion the recommendation of the *Agni-purāṇa*¹⁰⁰ is noteworthy. False shouts of victory should be made to terrify the enemy and spread confusion in his ranks. These may, perhaps, find a parallel in enemy propaganda in modern wars in which defeats are sometimes advertised as victories.
