Remarks on use of the words " *ʿarābah* " and " *rahkalah* ". I have not traced back the first adoption, in the secondary sense of a field piece, of a word originally meaning a cart. Either the usage was of Indian origin and of a date anterior to Bābar's time; or it might have begun with the translation of a Turkish or Arabic word already in use in the Chaghatāe army. The former is, I think, the preferable opinion.
