*Sībā* is defined by Steingass, 714, as from the Turkish, “a place surrounded by walls”; but Horn, 103, quoting the *‘Ālamgīrnāmah*, 313, translates *sībā* “aus den Befestigungen sich erhebender Bastionen”, or in other words what was called in Europe, a cavalier. This latter meaning would apply equally to ‘Abd-uṣ-ṣamad Khān’s towers, although they were independent structures, and not part of a fortress.
