The name Parāśara is an ancient one. In the Tai. Āraṇyaka (I. 1. 3. 37) we have a Vyāsa Pārāśarya. In the Vaṁśa that occurs in the Bṛhadāraṇyaka we have a Pārāśarya. The Nirukta gives an etymology of Pārāśara.³⁴² Pāṇini attributes a bhikṣusūtra to Pārāśarya.³⁴³
