²⁵⁰⁵ According to Kāt. VI. 5. 21 the adhvaryu only says ‘kill it (the paśu), it has gone following (the gods)’; संज्ञपयानवगन्नित्येव ब्रूयात्. The com. on Āp. VII. 16. 5. explains ‘अक्षतस्य मारणं संज्ञपनम्’ (it is killing without wounding or drawing blood). Śat. Br. III. 8. 1. 15 has the words संज्ञपथा ...... गन्निति.
