¹⁵³¹ In the वायुपुराण when speaking of गया the word महानदी occurs frequently (as in 112. 30, 110 6), but it refers to फल्गु On वायु 110. 6 ('ततो गयाप्रवेशे च पूर्वतोऽस्ति महानदी । तत्र तोयं समुत्पाद्य स्नात्वा निर्मले जले॥) the त्रिस्थली० p. 352 observes 'महानदीति फल्ग्वा एव नामधेयम्। तोप समुत्पाद्येति गुप्तनदीत्वान्मातृकायापनेनेन तोयमुत्पाद्य।'
