Kurukṣetra was also called Sannihatī or Sannihatyā. Vide those words in the list of tīrthas. The Vāmanapurāṇa (32. 3–4) says that Sarasvatī springs from a plakṣa tree, that after piercing many hills it enters Dvaitavana. Vāmana (32. 6–22) contains a eulogy of Sarasvatī by Mārkaṇḍeya. Alberuni (Sachau, vol. I. p. 261) states that the river Sarasvatī falls into the sea at the distance of a bowshot east of Somnāth. There is a small but holy stream called Sarasvatī, that rises in the Mahikantha hills and after crossing the south-east corner of Palanpur Agency passes by Siddhapura and Patan, flows underground for some miles and then enters the Runn of Cutch (Bom. G. vol. V. p. 283).1557a
