Another important doctrine in Indian astrology is that of dṛṣṭi (glance, aspect) which has been explained above (note 876). That doctrine had some plausibility when the distances between the planets and the stars were not known. But in view of modern astronomical knowledge the doctrine of the dṛṣṭis of planets has hardly any meaning. Every planet and star really faces every other planet and star in this vast Universe at all times unless there happens to be another celestial object in the line connecting any two of them and it is very difficult to understand how one planet can look at another planet or star at a quarter or a half or ¾ths aspect (i. e. at various angles)
