In the calculation of *nakṣatras*, however, the Report has adopted a variable *ayanāṁśa*, so that at the time of a particular nakṣatra the moon may be seen in the sky in the star or star-group of that name. This practice has been followed in our country from Vedic times and is perfectly scientific.
