¹⁹⁸¹ तेषामृग्यत्रार्थवशेन पादव्यवस्था । गीतिषु सामाख्या । शेषे यजु शब्द. । पू मी. सू II 1. 35-37 In अग्निमीळे पुरोहित (Rg. I 1 1) the first pāda has a complete sense, but in अग्निः पूर्वेभिरृषिभिरीड्यो नूतनैरुत (Rg I 1. 2) the meaning is not complete in the first pāda Therefore, the only definition is ‘पादव्यवस्था’ and अर्थवशेन is only illustrative as शबर says ‘यतो नार्थवशेनेति वृत्तादिवशव्यावृत्त्यर्थं, किं तर्हि अनुवाद एव प्रदर्शनार्थ. । . तस्माद्यत्र पादकृता व्यवस्था सा ऋगिति ’
