These guilds had the right to confer certain honours on some highly placed officials. For example the members of the nakara parivāra and mummuriḍaṇḍa “together with their three hundred Billa dependents and with the collection of the Holeyas of Vijayanagar having placed the diamond vaisaṇige in the presence of the holy lotus feet of the God Virūpākṣa, and sitting down, having agreed among themselves, conferred the mayoralty of the earth (Pṛthviśeṭṭitana) on Muddayya Daṇṇāyaka, who was the officer for superintendence of the customs of our fifty-six countries.” 63
